Children’s Harbor opened its new Children’s Clothing Collection exclusively for their foster children on June 15, with a ribbon cutting celebration.   The ceremony included the Miramar/Pembroke Pines Leadership Class, guests and supporters who played a big role in the creation of the Children’s Clothing Collection.

“Some children come to our campus with little more than the clothes they are wearing, so have a store such as this gives them a positive shopping experience. This provides an opportunity for them to pick out their own clothes and feel proud of having possessions that in some cases they may not have ever had before,” said Sue Glasscock, President and CEO of Children’s Harbor.
“Many of us cannot imagine the trauma that some of these children have experienced and seeing their excitement when they get to shop in an exclusive store just for them, gives them positive self-esteem and dignity.”

The idea of converting one of the garages on the Harbor campus came from a meeting with the Miramar/Pembroke Pines Leadership Class who offered to do their community service project for the Harbor campus. “We have assembled the new store with clothes racks separated for boys and girls and they each have their own dressing rooms as well!” said Sharon Sammarco President of the leadership class.

Thousands of clothing items are donated to Children’s Harbor each year and this new store provides a nice shopping experience for the dozens of children who come through the campus yearly.
