Why become a member?

A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds.

Every day children are removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, and abandonment.

In Broward County, there are more than 3,000 children in the child welfare system;

95% of them come into the foster care system as part of a sibling group. Sadly, an estimated 50% of children in foster care are separated from at least one sibling.

Children’s Harbor was established to keep brothers and sister together and to provide a loving place to call home for 31 vulnerable children. They need love, understanding and nurturing, a place to heal physically and emotionally. And we help them to grow into strong, caring, self-sufficient adults.

Children’s Harbor is a safe haven on a beautiful 8-acre campus with loving house parents and qualified counselors. But like the gap in our children’s hearts, Children’s Harbor has a gap in funding. Despite fundraising events, contracts, and grants, there is $6 gap per day for each child living on our campus.

You can make a difference. Help us close the gap by sponsoring a child, sibling group, or home for a month or for a year.

 You can help a teen, like Jake, who came to Children’s Harbor with his twin brother. With an absentee father and a mother struggling with mental health and substance use issues, the boys were left to care for themselves. Thanks to the love and support Jake has received at Children’s Harbor, he recently graduated from high school and is enrolled in Broward College.

Your support will help a sibling group, like Dashawn and Anthony, ages 8 and 10. Living in a home plagued by domestic violence, they were home alone when a fire started. Scared by the smoke, the boys locked themselves in the bathroom until the fire department arrived. Initially reserved and shy, Dashawn and Anthony, are now both happy and playful, running around the Children’s Harbor campus.
