Melida Akiti

As a social worker by trade, Kathleen Cannon understands firsthand the impact that non-profits have in the community. As President and CEO of United Way Broward, she utilizes her talents and undeniable ability to recognize a need and then seek out partners to create long-lasting positive solutions.

Kathleen has been in executive leadership for more than 25 years. Her philosophy is to lead with intention, purpose and to be strategic and goal oriented. She feels motivating and inspiring others to excellence starts with a profound sense of integrity and a positive regard for all stakeholders. Kathleen believes it is important to outline clear expectations which facilitate the accomplishments of desired outcomes. Her experience as a direct service provider and administrator is invaluable in running a well-rounded community organization. These attributes combined with her excellent visionary abilities and sharp business acumen makes her a motivating leader.

As a husband and father, I have become even more aware of how important stable support systems, positive role models, and access to opportunity are in shaping a child’s future. Kate Goldman

Kate Goldman is a seasoned community relations and government affairs professional with more than 28 years of experience in strategic planning, project management, event planning, marketing, and community engagement across both the corporate and nonprofit sectors in Broward County.

A graduate of Leadership Broward Class XXXI and Women Leading Broward, Kate serves on the boards of several prominent organizations, including The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, 2-1-1 Broward, Leadership Broward, and LifeNet4Families. She is also an active volunteer with numerous local nonprofit organizations.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University and has completed advanced leadership, fundraising, and event management programs through Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Indiana University, and Dale Carnegie. Her contributions to the community have earned her numerous honors, including recognition as one of Broward County’s 100 Outstanding Women and a South Florida Business Journal 2023 Influential Business Women Honoree.

Erika Royal

Erika Royal is a Strategic Advisor, executive coach, and former employment law partner who works with senior attorneys navigating high-pressure careers in BigLaw. With a background spanning law, leadership, and organizational behavior, Erika helps professionals operate with greater clarity, influence, and resilience in environments where expectations are high and margins for error are low.

In addition to her advisory work, Erika is a sought-after speaker and facilitator, known for translating complex workplace dynamics into practical strategies. She integrates tools such as Everything DiSC® and her proprietary Strategic Radical Acceptance™ framework to help individuals manage conflict, regulate emotional responses, and make more intentional decisions both at work and at home.

She lives in South Florida with her husband and is the proud mother of three teenagers and a Mal-Shi-Pom named Waffle. Outside of her professional work, Erika enjoys traveling, staying active, and finding moments of calm in the middle of an otherwise very busy life.

Alec Ingold

Alec Ingold is an NFL player and passionate advocate for youth and families in the foster care and adoption community. Through the Ingold Family Foundation, which he founded in 2021, Alec works to empower underserved youth through mentorship, financial literacy, leadership development, and mental health support.

Inspired by his own adoption story, Alec has become a national voice for foster care advocacy and community impact. His foundation’s initiatives focus on helping young people build confidence, overcome adversity, and create brighter futures both on and off the field.

Ariana Rodriguez

Ariana Rodriguez is Miss Kentucky 2025 and a passionate advocate for children and teens in foster care. Drawing from her own lived experience in the foster care system, Ariana uses her platform, “The Lucky Ones,” to raise awareness, inspire hope, and create meaningful conversations around the needs of foster youth.

Ariana is currently studying Social Work and Psychology at the University of Kentucky and is dedicated to empowering young people through advocacy, mentorship, and community outreach. Through public speaking and service initiatives across the state, she continues to use her voice to champion resilience, opportunity, and positive change for children and families.

Melinda Twillie-Bryant

Melinda Twillie-Bryant, a wife and mother of two adult children, is a multifaceted leader, strategist, and storyteller who brings nearly 20 years of experience across nonprofit leadership, public sector engagement, and brand development. As founder of Twillie Bryant Creative, she helps organizations grow through relationship-driven strategies, bold storytelling, and purpose-centered branding. A published author, former Vice President of Business Development, and seasoned community connector, Melinda is passionate about using her creativity and faith to uplift others and spark lasting impact across industries.

Arthur “Arty” Palermo Jr., CPA, is the founder and managing partner of the firm, bringing over 40 years of experience to his clients. Theresa Kennedy

Theresa Kennedy is a seasoned executive leader with more than 20 years of experience advancing outcomes in child welfare, human trafficking prevention, and complex nonprofit operations. She currently serves as Chief Operating Officer at Kristi House, Miami’s Children’s Advocacy Center, where she oversees daily operations across six locations and leads core functions including Human Resources, Information Technology, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Her portfolio includes oversight of COA accreditation and National Children’s Alliance standards, as well as strategic leadership of Project GOLD, a drop-in center supporting youth and young adults impacted by human trafficking.

Theresa is known for building systems that work—strengthening infrastructure, aligning teams, and driving measurable performance. As Regional Human Trafficking Coordinator for the Florida Department of Children and Families, she played a key role in shaping statewide policy, developing training protocols, and advancing cross-agency coordination to better serve exploited youth. Prior to that, as Assistant Vice President at ChildNet, she led case management, independent living, and adoption services across two counties, while cultivating strong partnerships with the courts, community providers, and funders.

A mission-driven and strategic operator, Theresa has successfully guided organizations through accreditation processes, policy modernization, and continuous quality improvement efforts. She has developed and sustained survivor-informed programming, contributed to national and regional task forces, and is a sought-after presenter on child exploitation, trauma, and systems-based solutions.

Her leadership and impact have been recognized with the FLITE Center’s Lifetime Heroes Award and the Ark of Freedom Alliance’s “Iron Maiden” Award, honoring her long-standing commitment to protecting and empowering vulnerable youth.

Linda Parker

Dr. Linda Parker serves as President and CEO of Women in Distress, where she has led the organization since 2020. She brings decades of leadership in human services, with deep expertise in both domestic and sexual violence, paired with a strong foundation in higher education as both an educator and senior administrator.

Her career spans executive leadership roles across multiple sectors, including serving as Executive Director of Victim Services at the Peace River Center, where she oversaw programs across Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties.
She has also held Director and Vice President roles at universities in Iowa and taught as an adjunct professor at institutions across the country.

Under Dr. Parker’s leadership, Women in Distress has expanded its reach and impact throughout Broward County while also playing a key role in strengthening statewide domestic violence services across Florida. She is a trusted voice in the field, frequently consulted on complex domestic violence cases, and actively contributes her expertise through service on numerous advisory boards.

Dr. Ruchika Gahd

Ruchika Gadh, D.O., is a board-certified family medicine physician and co-owner of Gadh Family Practice, serving patients throughout Plantation and the surrounding South Florida communities, including Sunrise, Davie, Weston, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. Known for her thoughtful, relationship-centered approach to care, Dr. Gadh is committed to treating the whole patient—not just the symptoms.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in neurobiology and physiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, before completing her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. She went on to complete her family medicine residency at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, where her clinical excellence and leadership earned her the distinction of “Best Resident” at North Miami Beach Medical Center.

Dr. Gadh is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and she remains dedicated to staying at the forefront of patient-centered, evidence-based care.

Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Dr. Gadh made South Florida her permanent home during medical school, where she met her husband and practice partner, Dr. Rundeep Gadh. Outside of the office, she enjoys traveling, cooking, photography, and creative projects, as well as spending time with family and friends. She’s also a loyal Miami Heat fan—win or lose.

After learning about the history and goals of Children’s Harbor, I knew right away that I wanted to get involved. Every child deserves a fair chance at becoming successful and living a life that they can be proud of. Karyn Rosenberg

Karyn Rosenberg, LCSW, PMH-C, has a private psychotherapy practice where she is licensed in Florida and North Carolina. She is a trauma-trained clinician in EMDR. (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She specializes in grief, loss, trauma, and reproductive mental health. She holds a certification in perinatal mental health and is certified in hypnotherapy.

Karyn has been an invited speaker at professional conferences and serves as a lecturer and trainer for the community. She is invited to work with schools and workplaces, offering crisis counseling and providing critical incident stress debriefing. Karyn is a published contributing author in The ABA Guide to Assisted Reproduction: Techniques, Legal Issues and Pathways to Success (ABA Consumer Guide) (2016) and Understanding the Journey: A Lifespan Approach to Working with Grieving People (2019). Karyn is happily married to her husband and is proud of her two daughters. Avi Spiller

Seasoned Educator and Dedicated Mathematician

Avi, a seasoned educator and dedicated mathematician, hails from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He attended Florida International University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, marking the inception of a thriving career that spans over three decades. Avi is renowned for his profound dedication to tutoring, having spent more than 30 years supporting students and igniting their passion for mathematics.

With over 23 years of experience in a traditional classroom setting, Avi has a deep understanding of the pedagogical processes that help students learn effectively. Gregg Havass is the President of WordsPerfect, a multimedia copywriting and digital marketing consulting firm he founded in 2001. A published writer and expert marketer, Gregg has created marketing, advertising, and public relations campaigns for scores of renowned local, regional, national, and global brands. Gregg’s passion for writing is only surpassed by his dedication towards mentoring at-risk, general education, and special needs students. Dr. Laura Ellick

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Laura Ellick graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from The College of William and Mary, where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish. She then earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from St. John’s University and is now a Licensed Psychologist in New York, Florida, and Virginia. Dr. Ellick also holds a PSYPACT license, which allows her to practice telepsychology in over 40 states. Dr. Ellick currently works with individuals, couples, and families both virtually and in person in Florida. Her specialties include eating disorders, addictions, and working with those with chronic medical conditions, including cancer and autoimmune disorders. Dr. Ellick’s approach focuses on helping individuals break through the old patterns and mindsets that are preventing personal and relationship success. Her passion for public speaking and educating others about psychology has led to a growing social media presence on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

Shenica is a Licensed Clinical Therapist at Memorial Healthcare System. In her career as a social work professional, she has focused on the creation and implementation of trauma-informed programming for Black and Brown communities. Shenica also enjoys creating space for underserved populations to build their vocational capacity through exposure and mentorship in niche career fields.

Paul Jaquith

Paul Jaquith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Addictions Professional with over 40 years of experience in the field of Social Work. He is an experienced clinical professional who has provided services to adults and children dealing with the challenges of Mental Illness and Substance Abuse. He was appointed as the President/CEO of Mental Health America of Southeast Florida in September 2012. In his role, he takes great pride in being the voice of individuals who have dealt with effects of mental illness. His role is to educate the public about the stigma associated with mental illness and to ensure the message that good mental health is a goal for everyone.

Dirk Stephens

Longtime football coach and seasoned sales pro. I’ve been mentoring high school athletes for over two decades and have seen it all—from hype to heartbreak.
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, I’m the oldest of four brothers—all of us growing up immersed in sports. That early love for athletics set the tone for a lifelong involvement in football, both on and off the field. I began coaching in 1996, just a year after graduating high school, starting with my youngest brother’s team. Since then, I’ve coached youth and high school football for over two decades, working with players aged 12 through high school.

My coaching journey included 11 rewarding years at American Fork High School, followed by a memorable season at Lone Peak High School, where I was part of the coaching staff that won the 2011 State Championship. While coaching was a passion, sales was my profession. I’ve worked in sales most of my life, and the flexibility it offered—when goals were met—allowed me to remain on the sidelines for many years.

In 2020, my wife Jo and I took on a new challenge by purchasing Law Firm Sites, a digital marketing company specializing in web development and online services for law firms. This exciting venture eventually pulled me away from coaching full-time, but I remain actively involved with the local football program—attending games, helping with media, and supporting team websites whenever I can.

Rebecca Thompson

Rebecca Thompson was elected to the School Board of Broward County in November 2024 to represent District 2 which includes Pembroke Pines, Miramar, Southwest Ranches, and parts of Davie and Cooper City. With over a decade of experience in community social work and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, she is the first social worker on the School Board. She has worked in various settings, including as a school social worker for Broward County schools, a residential counselor at an emergency teen shelter, and Program Director for a parenting program. Ms. Thompson is a mom to three young Broward students and a resident of Pembroke Pines. She is dedicated to improving the district’s mental health system, supporting schools, and providing A-rated services to students and families.

Mike Hernandez

Vice Mayor

Vice Mayor Hernández has over 20 years of experience in the fields of Communication and Public Affairs. He has spent parts of his career working as a senior executive in government and as a c-suite consultant in the private and non-profit sectors. For four years, Hernández was the Director of Communications for Miami-Dade County government and Senior Advisor to its mayor. In that role, Hernandez led communication efforts for Miami International Airport and Port Miami, as well as the water & sewer and emergency management departments. He was the mayor’s only official spokesperson and chief communications officer for the 25-department government and managed crises such as the impact of Hurricane Irma and the outbreak of the Zika virus. From 2019-2024, he appeared on NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 as the political analyst for both stations, providing commentary and information on the political process in Washington, D.C., Tallahassee, and South Florida for viewers in English and Spanish. Earlier in his career, Hernández worked as a consultant to heads of state, presidential and congressional candidates, political parties and organizations in the United States and 10 other countries throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East while a Senior Director at Washington, D.C. based Penn Schoen Berland, a global research consultancy.

A 15-year resident of Pembroke Pines, Hernández is married to the former Christine Cento. They have two children who attend local public schools. Originally from Miami and born to Cuban-American parents, Hernández is a proud graduate of Florida International University (FIU) where he earned two degrees — a Master’s in Public Administration and Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He has served as the president of the university’s 300,000-member alumni association and is currently an adjunct professor for the School of International & Public Affairs and College of Communication. Hernández also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the economic development nonprofit organization Prospera in Orlando.

Before starting my career in human resources, I worked with troubled children and adolescents, a role that instilled in me a deep passion for helping young people heal and flourish. I joined the board of Children’s Harbor because I believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can grow and thrive. I am committed to supporting their mission to strengthen families and give children the opportunity to build bright, hopeful futures.

Kelley Maple, APRN, FNP-BC

Kelley Maple is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the founder of The KM Health Collective, a platform dedicated to helping women feel strong, confident, and connected to their bodies through every stage of life. Known for her honest, compassionate approach, Kelley specializes in hormone health, regenerative medicine, and aesthetic care—guiding her patients through physical changes with science-backed strategies and heart-centered education.

With more than a decade of clinical experience, Kelley is passionate about changing the conversation around body image, health, and aging. She is the Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Medical Anti-Aging, a leading clinic in South Florida, and is a proud advocate for personalized care that meets people where they are—at any age or stage.

Outside the clinic, Kelley is a mom, daughter, a friend, an athlete, a Women’s Health Ambassador for a personalized nutrition company and a passionate advocate for empowering women to reclaim their health and self-worth. Alex Ayodele

Alex Ayodele is the CEO and Founder of Balcony People, a premium wellness concierge dedicated to detoxing the body, home, and lifestyle. A former track athlete at the University of Colorado, Alex has always been passionate about holistic health and wellness—both on and off the field. She began her career as a licensed esthetician and natural beauty expert, specializing in problematic skin, where she discovered the deep connection between skin health and gut health.

Feeling called to a greater purpose, Alex transitioned from the beauty industry to become a licensed integrative nutrition health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Stephanie Parker

Stephanie Parker serves as president of South Florida’s Condo-HOA Division. Stephanie joined FirstService Residential as vice president of strategy and operations in the South region in 2014. She then served as vice president of operations at a national level, with the oversight and efficient execution of major company initiatives, including the customer experience, process improvement, property operations and national procurement. Stephanie re-joined the South region in 2022 as the president of South Florida’s Condo-HOA Division, overseeing operations and growth initiatives for condominium and HOA communities in Southwest Florida and along the eastern coast from Miami to Vero Beach.

Stephanie has a robust 20-year background in working with leadership teams to improve operations, execute strategic company initiatives and elevate overall performance. Prior to joining FirstService Residential, she ran Sparker Consulting, worked at Managerial Design and served as Vice President of Organization Effectiveness at Real Matters, Inc., a global provider of financial services technology, and Solidifi, a residential real estate appraisal firm.

Stephanie holds an MBA from Schulich School of Business/York University in Toronto, Canada and is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where she attained an Honors Bachelor of Music. Stephanie is a native of Ontario and serves as the Board Chair of the Board of Directors for Children’s Harbor. Outside the boardroom, she is a singer, writer, Ironman triathlete, devoted mother of two and an advocate for trust-based parenting. She believes the best boundaries—whether in communities or families—are built on respect, not control.

Tiffani Dhooge

Tiffani Dhooge is the President & CEO of Children’s Harbor, a nationally recognized child welfare organization serving teens in foster care. As an award-winning advocate with over 25 years in the field, she’s spent the last eight fighting for the kids the system forgot. An Army mom and brand-new grandmother, Tiffani brings expert advice, hard-won strategies, and a whole lot of tenacity to the chaos of parenting teens.

Erik Chafin

Erik Chafin is the Chief Development Officer at Children’s Harbor, where he leads strategic fundraising efforts to support teens and young adults impacted by trauma. Outside of the office, Erik is a proud dad to three teenagers, which means he’s no stranger to late-night talks, last-minute schedule changes, and the occasional group chat meltdown. Whether he’s leading a major philanthropic initiative or navigating the ever-evolving world of parenting, Erik shows up with strategy, heart, and a sense of humor that keeps it all grounded.

Julie Khanna

Julie Khanna is the founder and owner behind two media companies: Khanna Connections, a public relations, strategic communications, and media marketing agency specializing in the medical, health, and nonprofit industries, and Khanna House Studios, a full-production YouTube, podcast, and content creation studio located in Wellington, Florida, that also provides in-studio and onsite videography. With years of documented experience and secured media placements, Khanna and her team successfully secure top-level local and national media coverage for their clients and provide executive thought leadership on increasing brand visibility. Michael Wild, Esq.

Michael D. Wild, Esq., is the managing partner of WFP Law, PA, and a leader in his community. Jason Zembuch Young

Jason Zembuch Young is a high school theatre teacher and was the 2023 Tony Award Winner for Excellence in Theatre Education. He has been teaching for 27 years and has worked with teenagers his entire career. He and his husband, Michael, are soon to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They have fostered over 30 children and have a teenage daughter who they adopted from foster care. Jason holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Directing for the Stage.

Dr. Brandy Pidermann, DSW, LCSW-QS

Licensed Psychotherapist & Mental Health Expert

Dr. Brandy Pidermann is a licensed psychotherapist, clinical social worker, and the founder of Changing Tides Therapy. She has over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families, specializing in mental health, emotional resilience, and family dynamics.

In addition to her private practice, she leads a clinical team overseeing a therapeutic program for foster care youth, ensuring underserved teens receive the structure, support, and interventions they need to thrive. She has also taught clinical social work courses at Florida Atlantic University, helping train the next generation of mental health professionals.

Her work extends beyond direct practice—she has contributed to youth mental health research, particularly in suicide prevention, and has developed programs supporting families, schools, and healthcare systems. Passionate about mental health education, she helps parents and caregivers better understand teen behavior, strengthen communication, and build emotional resilience in today’s world.

Romi Wallach began working in Financial Services in 2017. In early 2022 she joined NOW CFO as a Business Development Representative in the South Florida market.
